  • 29th October 2025, Working Safely in the Heat

At Richard Crookes Constructions, we take heat-related illness seriously. Every year, workers across Australia suffer from heat stress, dehydration, and fatigue. These can lead to serious medical emergencies if not managed properly.

Your health and safety come first. No deadline, task, or pour is worth risking heat stress. We expect everyone on site — workers, supervisors, and management — to look out for each other and follow the heat safety controls in place.

    How We Manage the Risks

We’ve put several measures in place to keep everyone safe during hot conditions:

    Hydration:
Cool, clean drinking water is available on site — drink small amounts often, not just when you’re thirsty.

    Shade and Rest:
Shaded rest areas are provided for breaks. Take them regularly, especially during peak heat (usually 11am–3pm).

    Work Scheduling:
We plan high-exertion tasks earlier in the day or rotate crews to limit time in direct sun when possible.

    PPE and Clothing:
Lightweight, light-colored, and breathable clothing is encouraged. Hats and sunscreen are a must.

    Monitoring:
Subcontractor supervisors monitor conditions and workers for signs of heat stress — if you’re feeling unwell, speak up immediately.

    Emergency Response:
Our team is trained to respond quickly to heat-related illness. Don’t push through — report symptoms early.

Know the Signs of Heat Stress

    Be alert for:

    Dizziness, headaches, or nausea

    Muscle cramps or heavy sweating

    Fatigue, confusion, or irritability

Rapid heartbeat or pale, clammy skin

If you notice these signs in yourself or a mate — act fast. Move to shade, cool down, and get help.
